This year we want to gently wish a Happy Mother’s Day to everyone celebrating.
As Doulas, we are very in tune with a mother‘s needs. This got us thinking, are mothers truly being celebrated on Mother’s Day?
Yes yes, any gift is nice. It’s the thought that counts right? However, is a last minute gift of flowers really a way to celebrate the mom in your life?
A mother is on call 365 days a year. They have the hardest job. It is physically exhausting and can be emotionally draining. Would any mother give up this position? No, but it is nice to be recognized every once in a while.
We asked our social media moms what they truly want for Mother’s Day. Do you think flowers, breakfast in bed, or jewelry made the list?
Keep reading to hear from some real life moms what they really want for Mother’s Day this year……
- SLEEP! With an overwhelming response, and we are not surprised. SLEEP was what the majority of moms want (or need!)
- a day off with no responsibilities
- clean home
- time to soak in all the precious moments
- alone time
- plan, make and clean up after dinner
- hobby gifts (plants, bike, etc)
- hot coffee
- moments of silence
- a day without decisions
- to not share snacks 😂
Looking at these responses we think it is obvious that moms are looking for a break for Mother’s Day, and snacks!
Giving a mother a day “off” to rest and recharge would mean everything to her. A day filled with self-care and no responsibilities is the best gift you can give any mom, any time of the year!
If you are looking to give the gift of rest or sleep to a new mom in your life we can help! Contact us today to see how a Doula can lend a helping hand during the day or overnight.
